Three Week Workshops for children during summer vacations at Central State Library, Chandigarh

The T.S. Central State Library, Sector 17, Chandigarh organized Summer Fest 2017, a three week summer workshop for children members of the library from 22nd May to 10th June, 2017 in association with Chandigarh Sahitya Akademi. It included literary and creative workshops. Resource persons invited were experts in their own fields. About hundred children took part in the workshops every day. The whole programme was divided into seven workshops.

The Fest started off with a one week workshop on Personality development through theatre. This boosted their confidence, opened them up for public speaking and stage fear. In the end, seven teams were made and the children performed small plays on different themes like Respect elders, What you sow, so shall you reap, Be kind and help others, Teamwork, Being responsible, etc. It was a great learning experience for the children. Creative writing workshop was also organized in which the children learnt how to write creatively and at the same time come on the stage and speak up their writings.

A three days Craft workshop was organized to bring out creativity in children. The children made candle stands, pencil stands, decoration items by using waste materials like damaged CD’s , used ice cream sticks, empty toilet paper and aluminum foil roll, plastic spoons, plastic cool drink bottles, etc. They made beautiful things out of it.

Clay Modeling was also organized in which a sculpture expert was invited. The children had an opportunity to create objects out of potter’s clay. They were so excited to use it.

Drawing, painting and calligraphy workshop was also a part. Children learnt new concepts of drawing and water colour painting, including salt painting. Calligraphy was taught using calligraphy/ fountain pen ink and flat brushes.

The Fest ended with the workshop on Science experiments through fun. Various concepts of science were explained to children in a fun way using basic experiments. Concept of air pressure, gravity, force, etc was explained to children in a fun way.
